I think a redeeming feature is the shadowstep/blood-sprint feature that encourage fast-pace play and allow you to essentially fly infinitely. Yuki is fine, she's obviously suffering through a lot of mental turmoil, but I feel like the game treats her more as an edgy teen rather than an a third dimensional human being. Nor does the game seem to care if you like the character you're playing either. The story is unclear and doesn't have much in the way for a player to give much of a crap about what's going on. Not to mention it doesn't feel like you're upgrading anything when you DO buy those upgrades. Other than beads, which you can only use four of, there's no real reward system. You never truly get enough coin to make it worthwhile when you defeat a boss. The shop offers fight assisting food which deal with health, mana, and regeneration, but they cost so much compared to actual upgrades there's little point in buying them since you can't grow stronger if you buy anything other than those upgrades. It's strange to have shops every few step when you can't even get enough coin to spend it on useful items until you're so far in the game they becomes superfluous.
